Carlos Eduardo Vaz Rossell obtained his B. Sc. Degree in Chemical Engineering at the State University of Uruguay in 1970 and the degrees of M. Sc (1972) and Dr. Sc. (1976) in Food Engineering at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. Professor at the Food Engineering Faculty of Unicamp from 1973 to 1978. Process Engineer at the Meat Packing Industry (1968-1971) and in the Bioprocess industry (veterinary vaccine production) as biochemical engineer (1978-1980). 
In 1980 he joined the Copersucar Center of Technology (1980-2005) working as Senior Process Engineer, Process Coordinator, Head of the Process Division and Specialized Engineer, where he worked in process engineering and research and development projects associated to bioethanol from sugarcane, by-products recover and new products development.
Senior Researcher at NIPE-Unicamp, in the development of The Ethanol Expansion Project (expansion of Brazilian ethanol production to 200.000.000 m³ per year) contracted by the Center of Strategic Studies and Management (CGEE) / Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT). Researcher in the Project of Public Policy for Sugarcane Processing Sector contracted by FAPESP (2005-2008). 
Research Leader and coordinator of the project Organosolv Process (DHR) for cane bagasse conversion to Ethanol, a partnership between Dedini S/A, CTC-Cpersucar finaced by FAPESP (2004-2007).
Coordinator of the Biomass Process Division (2008-2016) and Director (4/2012 to 01/2013), (10/2014 to 07/2015) of the Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory (CTBE/CNPEM).
Research Leader of the project Very High Gravity – ethanol fermentation in continuous multistage with cell recovery, reactivation and recycle (2012-2016), a partnership between CTBE and British Petroleum Bioenergy (BP) and the project "Biodiversity for the production of ethanol" Technology Innovation Project (PITE) Fapesp/Fapespa CTBE-UFPA-Vale. 
Consultant at the sugar and ethanol industry, mainly in fermentation processes, ethanol production, cellulose conversion to ethanol, recovering of by-products and development of new products from sugarcane and at the bioprocess industry mainly in the transfer of technology step from basic research to commercial process.
AWARDS: “Maurice Paturau” (2004) prize by the International Society of Sugarcane Technologists for his work on by-products of the sugarcane industry. “Personality in Energy - 2008” by the Syndicate of Engineers of the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
He is a member of Fundação de Pesquisas André Tosello (a research foundation), occupying the position of technical director and vice-president (from 1973 to present).
Research collaborator at the Chemical Processes Department of the Chemical Engineering Faculty of the University of Campinas (2006-2016) and at NIPE-Unicamp from 2017.
